Embracing Standards and Discovering New Ones
Sadly, there are no required visual art standards in most states for special needs students, however there are four federal laws that intersect to support educational access for students with disabilities. Two address discrimination and the other two address education specifically. The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) and the Americans with Disabilities Education Act of 1997 (IDEA) are civil right laws intended to prevent discrimination.
