Aesthetic- a form or beauty
Michael Jordan holds his own form of aesthetic as he lays up the ball in mid-air and dunks.
There was a unique aesthetic, as if he were a juggler in a circus, observing the taffy maker produce candy with 20 pounds of sugar and contents. It made the taste of eating the taffy more fun, and valuable because I saw how it was made.
Affect- your personal facial or body language.
After each basketball game Michael Jordan reflects a cheerful affect in his face even though he is very tired from playing a hard game.
Banal- common, boring, plain or routine
The meter maid wrote tickets out each day projecting a banal affect with no personal aesthetic.
Vivid- color that is bright, the opposite of muted.
example: The vivid colors of the portrait of Marilyn Monroe by Andy Warhol became a symbol for the art of the Pop Culture of the 1960’s.
Obtuse - insensitive, annoying, slow
The student was very obtuse in giving his answer in history class. He probably was only guessing.
Obscure - insensitive, slow, annoying
Nebulous -unclear, uncertain
I got a very nebulous answer in the art critique because I was unsure if I liked the work of art or not.
Opaque- a color or non-color that is a solid and is not transparent.
The artist painted a graphic image of his Mother that was opaque making her appear like a cartoon.
Byzantine- convoluted or complex
The Italian Renaissance produced many byzantine painters.
Eclectic- from diverse sources
The meter maid wrote tickets out each day projecting a banal affect with no personal aesthetic.
Font- a form type style such as Times Roman or Ariel
example: The classic car magazine uses a traditional font in their copy to match the classical car era.
Surrealism- fantasy, dreaming, the opposite of realism
example: I had a dream that was very surrealistic.
Delineate- list, explain
example: Can you delineate your responses after viewing the surrealist painting, The False Mirror?
